Darksky ohio’s Mission

IDA’s mission is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through environmentally responsible outdoor lighting.

Vice President

Dr. Bryan Boulanger serves as the Engineering Alumni Endowed Chair at Ohio Northern University where he educates engineering students and works to preserve natural landscapes.  Since 2015, Bryan has focused on developing tools and practices that decision makers can use to reduce the impact of artificial lightscapes on surrounding nocturnal ecosystems, natural resources, and human experiences.

Treasurer

Bryan Summer is a retired Elementary School Teacher from the Galion City Schools. He has been involved in Astronomy for around 20 years. He is an Officer of the Lowe Volk Park Astronomy Club and Treasurer of Dark Sky Ohio. He enjoys Astrophotography, Constellations, Meteor Showers, and Nebulas, and his favorite telescopes are the Vaonis Stellina, 10” Orion Dobsonian, and Oberwerk BT-100 Binocular Telescope. He joined the Dark Sky Organization after an astronomy trip to Wyoming and the dark skies of Yellowstone National Park.

Traci’s passion for the night sky started as a child while growing up in rural Michigan. Her advocacy work began in 2019 when she helped to pass a light ordinance in Clark County, Ohio. Traci enjoys working with community members to make reasonable laws to decrease light pollution. She hopes one day her own children can experience dark skies in Ohio.

Youth Outreach Director

Lannai is an aspiring astrophysicist and a student at The Ohio State University. She began her DarkSky advocacy and role as DarkSky Ohio’s Youth Outreach Director in 2023. She has been interested in astronomy since she was a child and hopes that other young people will be able to experience the beauty of the night sky for years to come.
